Over time, and especially after the pandemic, payment methods have changed. In addition to the fact that online shopping has grown significantly, in the context of the general "digitalization" of our everyday life, new payment methods have also been introduced to the market.
Focus Bari's new survey entitled "The Payment Methods Greeks Prefer" was conducted in April 2023 among a sample of 1,001 people, aged 18 to 64 from all over Greece and reveals the knowledge and habits of Greeks in this area.
Key research findings include:
- Greek consumers know almost half of the payment methods while using 1/3 of those available.
- The debit card as well as cash, lead the ranking in relation to the rest of the payment methods.
- Men and younger ages are more attuned to more modern payment methods.
- Consumers' preferred payment methods vary by occasion.
The most preferable ways of payments in Greece
1. Traditional payment methods: 63%.

2. Digital payment methods: 24%.
Including:
- Digital debit card on smartphones
- Digital credit card on smartphones

Including:
- Digital wallets, Google Pay, Apple Pay etc.
- Buy Now Pay Later services
- Revolut / N26 cards, physical or digital
- Payzy payment service by Cosmote
